How to Volunteer at North Beach
So much of what makes North Beach feel like a community happens because parents show up. Some of us have an hour a month, some have a free afternoon a week, and some are great at design or writing and would rather help from home. Every bit of it counts, and there's a spot for just about any schedule.
Here's a look at where help is needed this year.
Help with PTA events
Popsicles on the Playground, the Harvest Carnival, STEM Night, and our annual auction are all made possible by parent volunteers. You can lead a committee and help shape an event from the start, or simply sign up to lend a hand on the day of. Both are needed.
There's behind-the-scenes work too. If you have skills in graphic design, communications, or something else you think could help, reach out to the PTA and we'll find a good fit.
Volunteer in the school
Lunchtime volunteer. This is one of the easiest (and most fun) ways to get involved. It's a 1.5-hour commitment, you get to spend time with kids from every grade, and it makes a real difference for our North Beach staff, especially our Lunch Lady Kate. Sign up to be a lunchtime volunteer.
Field trip chaperone. Teachers may ask for parent help on field trips throughout the year. Worth knowing: you'll need your volunteer paperwork done ahead of time, so get it finished early if you'd like to go.
On-call volunteer pool. If you work from home and live nearby, consider joining the on-call pool in Konstella. You may get a call to help with lunch or playground duty when the school is short-handed.
Room parent. Room parents are still needed! It's a great way to connect with your child's class and other families. Sign up to be a room parent, or grab a friend and sign up together.
Library support. Our librarian, Ms. Van Stone, is looking for someone to help with shelving for 30 minutes or more on Fridays, any time during the school day. She'd also love extra support on Thursdays or Fridays between October 13 and November 6. If you're interested, email her at nevanstone@seattleschools.org.
Before you volunteer: complete your SPS paperwork
All volunteers need to complete Seattle Public Schools volunteer training and paperwork before helping out in the building or on field trips.

It only takes a little time to get set up, and once you're approved, you're ready for anything on this list.
Questions?
Not sure where you'd fit best? Contact the PTA and we'll help you find something that works for your schedule. Thank you for being part of what makes North Beach such a great place to learn.
