Spectrum Update

If your child qualified for Spectrum after participating in the testing just concluded, you must enroll your child in the Spectrum Program.  Because you now have the choice of self-contained at another site or inclusion here at North Beach, you need to specify your preference.   This must be done during the open enrollment period in March.

Many families with students in the Spectrum Program received their 2010-11 assignment letter and were confused about its wording.  The notifications that were sent last week will now show these children as Program:  Regular if they attend North Beach, but will still be listed as Spectrum students at the central office.  They will continue to be eligible for Spectrum Programs should they choose to move to another school.  Although it says regular program, it does NOT mean they are no longer a Spectrum student.  If you are still unsure or confused, please contact Robert Vaughn at 252-0134.

Clothing Request from the Office

We are experiencing an increased number of students needing changes of clothing.  If you have sweat pants that you no longer need, the Nurse’s Office would be willing to take them.  We are looking at sizes that would fit K-5, boys and girls.  Thanks for your help!

Health Issues

Flu Season Continues
Though the flu season this year has been relatively mild, we still may have another round of infections. The predictions are that there will be a third wave of H1N1 flu infections in late winter and early spring.
IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO GET FLU IMMUNIZATIONS
Both the H1N1 and seasonal flu immunizations are available at many locations such as doctors' offices, pharmacies, and hospitals. Please consider getting immunizations for the whole family. It is possible that the next wave of infections will also hit older people as well as children. It is especially important to receive an immunization if you have a chronic health condition.
If you have any questions about the flu, or immunizations, you can get good information from Public Health- Seattle and King County at 206-296- 4600 or on the website: http://www.kingcounty.gov/healthservices/health. aspx This website also lists locations for free immunizations. Please consider protecting your family from both flus.

For information on health issues at school , please see our Staying Healthy at School page

Friendly reminder - Keep your child home if: They are vomiting or have diarrhea. They have a rash, or an eye infection. They have a sore throat, or don't feel well enough to participate in school activities. They have a temperature 100 degrees F or over. Students need to be free of fever for a whole school day without fever reducing medications before they come back to school. Please do not send your child back by giving them a fever reducing medicine when they have a fever. We see a fair amount of this. Coming back too soon spreads illness, but more importantly it puts your child at increased risk of complications from their own illness.

Safety Patrol

From Ms Bowers: North Beach staff appreciates your cooperation in following our simple rules about drop off and pick up.  Staff are keeping track of offender's license plate numbers and talking with our traffic officers to help us slow down the traffic and follow legal traffic guidelines.

Follow this link for the safety patrol schedule - updated for March!
